【Spirit of the Artisan】Inheriting Skills, Honoring Craftsmanship

Behind every piece of metal lies the meticulously crafted achievement of the sheet metal masters. Through the guidance of the masters, self-motivated learning, and continuous self-improvement, he found his own brilliance. This sheet metal master, with craftsmanship, persistence, and inheritance as his fulcrums, has never stopped pursuing excellence, transforming the profession of a sheet metal master into an art, an embodiment of his ultimate demand on himself, and an endless drive for excellence: Sheet Metal Assembly Master—Arthur.

After graduation, Arthur had no particular idea about his career, so he entered the steel industry through a friend’s introduction. Facing a new field where he knew nothing, Arthur continuously tried many methods and humbly sought advice from professional masters. However, constant questioning often annoyed the masters, which gradually made Arthur afraid to speak up, and this kind of work environment and system led him to change companies multiple times. Then, by chance, Arthur’s mother saw a recruitment advertisement for Jenyen in the newspaper, and he subsequently joined Jenyen Stainless Steel.

Arthur said: “When I first joined, I actually didn’t know much and had to learn everything, even failing the practical interview twice!” But he is grateful to have met the master who changed his life at Jenyen. “If you don’t know, ask—ask once, twice, a hundred times. Do it every day, and I believe you will definitely learn!” It was this encouragement that empowered Arthur to dare to ask and try. He gradually found his own methods, and even took on the major responsibilities of blueprint dismantling, plate cutting, and punching, ensuring perfect quality control at the front end of all products.

Technology is advancing rapidly, and the company’s equipment gradually couldn’t keep up with the production schedule. The boss was very willing to invest, so many new pieces of equipment were purchased. The equipment updates quickly brought the production schedule back on track, but this also presented many challenges to Arthur, who worked at the front-end station, with many new things to learn and face. Yet, he continued to humbly ask questions, hoping to quickly familiarize himself with the operations and make his work more efficient.

「我覺得自己就像生產線的火車頭,我要快點熟悉,才能讓產線順利運作」

“I feel like the locomotive of the production line; I have to familiarize myself quickly to ensure the smooth operation of the production line.”

Once, due to plate material requirements, he was operating the cutting machine, but in his haste, he misjudged the distance. Everyone heard a sound of “Ah!” and accidentally, Arthur’s finger was injured. Arthur said his mind went completely blank at the moment, and he didn’t know what happened, only feeling a slight pain. By the time he regained consciousness, his finger had already been treated. He went through a period of rehabilitation and recovery, and during this process, he was very grateful for the company’s concern and handling attitude. The warmest gesture was from the master Arthur had followed for years, who visited Arthur’s home multiple times to check on him and offer encouragement. Arthur said: “The master is no longer just a supervisor in my heart; he is like an older brother who is always there when you encounter difficulties, continuously giving me encouragement and support, making me feel that there is nothing that cannot be handled or solved!” I saw immense warmth and gratitude in Arthur’s eyes, a sincerity that words cannot express.

If someone says that the master’s technique is a crucial part of demonstrating product quality,
Then I would say that the inheritance of technology is the most important policy for the company’s sustainable operation.

Arthur has been with the company for almost 15 years. During this time, he has transformed from an ignorant apprentice into a team leader, and now he is growing and exchanging ideas with other masters. Arthur says: “Adhering to the guiding principles of my master, I will also use this approach to pass on the skills to others, hoping everyone can continue to improve.”

For Arthur, the work atmosphere is very important in determining whether a job is worth long-term commitment. Working together to complete a finished product is a very rewarding experience. In this kind of work environment, he can fully utilize his expertise, ensure product quality, and maintain good interaction with colleagues; after work, he can wholeheartedly spend time with his family and do things he wants to do, making him feel that his quality of life is getting better and he is happy every day.

In this world of steel, Arthur is like a piece of refined metal, enduring various tests and difficulties, and gradually exhibiting a resilient brilliance. The mentorship in his life also testifies to the warmth of skill inheritance and the importance of a company’s sustainable operation.

His story tells us that no matter where we are, as long as we maintain craftsmanship and persistence, we can find our own place. May we all draw strength from him, constantly pursue excellence, and seek that brilliance that belongs to us.
